Chirami
Japanese kanji on your phone, one character at a time.
Chirami shows one Japanese character on your Home Screen, or on your Lock Screen on iPhone, and changes it through the day. Every glance is a little practice, and a two-minute review brings back what you're about to forget.
What's inside
- All 92 kana and the 2,136 jōyō kanji, by JLPT level from N5 to N1.
- For every kanji: meaning in English or French, on and kun readings, animated stroke order, its parts, and a common word with its reading.
- Widgets that show the kanji you're about to forget first, and two-minute spaced-repetition reviews.
- No account, no ads and no tracking. Your progress stays on your phone.

Common questions
Read aloud says there's no Japanese voice
Chirami uses your phone's own voice, and some phones don't come with a Japanese one.
- Android: tap Add a voice in Chirami's message. Or open Settings, search for Text-to-speech, tap the gear next to the engine, then Install voice data › Japanese.
- iPhone: Settings › Accessibility › Spoken Content › Voices › Japanese.
How do I add the widgets?
- Android: touch and hold an empty spot on your Home Screen, tap Widgets, find Chirami, and drag the small or medium widget into place.
- iPhone Lock Screen: touch and hold the Lock Screen, tap Customize, then Lock Screen, tap the box under the clock and choose Chirami.
- iPhone Home Screen: touch and hold an empty spot, tap Edit or +, then Add Widget, and choose Chirami.
The widgets are part of Chirami Pro.
I paid, but Pro didn't unlock
In Chirami, go to Settings › Restore purchases, using the same Google Play or Apple account you paid with. If Pro still doesn't unlock, email us with your Support ID.
How do I cancel a subscription?
- Google Play: in the Play Store app, tap your profile picture › Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions › Chirami › Cancel subscription.
- iPhone: Settings › your name › Subscriptions › Chirami › Cancel Subscription.
Deleting the app doesn't cancel a subscription. Cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date.
Can I get a refund?
Google and Apple handle payments, so they handle refunds: use your Google Play order history or reportaproblem.apple.com. Your rights under consumer law are not affected.
Can I move my progress to a new phone?
Not yet. Chirami has no accounts, so your progress stays on the phone where you made it. Chirami Pro does move with your store account: install Chirami on the new phone and tap Settings › Restore purchases.
How do I delete my data?
Settings › Reset all progress deletes everything Chirami keeps on your phone, and so does deleting the app. To delete your purchase record too, email us with your Support ID.
